Our method: sources and checks
Where our hotel information comes from, how we check it and when: official classification, hotel websites, IDFM, OpenStreetMap.
What this guide is
Latin Quarter Hotels is an independent guide. Every hotel profile is built from public sources that anyone can check, and each one shows the date on which it was last checked. No hotel pays to appear in it.
We do not claim to have stayed in the hotels we describe. When a statement comes from the hotel alone — a story about the building, a claim to be the only one of its kind — we say so (“according to the hotel”).
Stars: the official register
The stars shown are those of the official register of classified tourist accommodation, published every day by Atout France, the French tourism development agency, on data.gouv.fr. We give the date of each hotel’s classification decision. A classification is valid for five years. A hotel that is not in the register is shown as “not classified”: we never estimate stars.
Facilities and opening status: official websites
Facilities (spa, pool, accessible rooms, family rooms, pets…), the number of rooms and the fact that a hotel is open and taking bookings are read on its official website. Opening hours, prices and booking rules for museums, squares and monuments come from their official websites and from the City of Paris. When two sources disagree, we follow the official register and leave the point out of our text.
Metro, walking and journey times
Stations and lines come from the open data of Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), the regional transport authority. Walking times are estimates: the straight-line distance multiplied by 1.3, at 80 metres a minute, to the station rather than to a given exit.
Maps and addresses
Hotel positions come from OpenStreetMap (ODbL licence) and, when a hotel is missing there, from the French National Address Base. Arrondissement boundaries come from the City of Paris open data (ODbL), simplified. Our maps are drawn in the page, without any tracking script.
History and heritage
A building is described as protected only if it appears in the Mérimée database of the French Ministry of Culture, with its listing date. Dates given only by a hotel are presented as the hotel’s own account.
Prices, ratings and reviews
We publish no exact prices. The price range (€ to €€€€) is estimated from the official category; a “from” price is only ever shown with the date on which it was read. We publish no ratings, no scores and no reviews of our own, and we do not copy guests’ reviews.
Who writes
The texts are signed Mathilde Saverne, the pen name used by the editorial team of this guide. Each profile is checked against the sources listed below, and its date is updated whenever it is checked again.
Spotted an error or a change (a closure, new hours)? Write to us using the contact details in the legal notice: we check against the source and correct the page, with a new date.
