2 rue Racine, 75006 Paris · 50 rooms
Fifty rooms at 2 rue Racine. The hotel mentions Verlaine and Rimbaud among its past guests, a claim we found no outside source for. A connecting room sleeps four, and a bar opens off the lobby. Its express breakfast starts at 5 a.m. and the hotel says it has no accessible room, for architectural reasons.
We measured the distance from the Sorbonne to each of the 110 hotels in our base, from the coordinates of both. The fifteen nearest lie between 50 and 230 metres away, and the list follows that order. We left out the Hôtel Cluny-Sorbonne, 70 metres away, because it does not appear in the Atout France register of rated hotels, the national list that we use for all stars.
Distances are in a straight line, rounded; add a few minutes to each for the streets. Stars come from the register as published on 4 October 2026, with the date of each decision on its card. We checked that each hotel was open on its own website. No one pays to appear, we quote no rates, and the price bands (€€ and €€€) are estimated from the category.
Around the university
The Sorbonne sits between rue Saint-Jacques and boulevard Saint-Michel, a short walk from the Luxembourg gardens. Four hotels stand on rue Cujas: the Salvia, the French Theory, the Grand Cœur Latin and the Grand Hôtel Saint Michel. Rue Victor-Cousin and place de la Sorbonne hold the Select and the Design Sorbonne. A little further on, rue Racine and rue Monsieur-le-Prince lead towards the Odéon.
Size. Seven of the fifteen have fewer than 40 rooms, while the Trianon, with 110, is the largest hotel in our base.
Accessibility. Five hotels describe adapted rooms: the Select, the Grand Cœur Latin, the Grand Hôtel Saint Michel, the Mercure (two room types) and Central Saint-Germain (two rooms). The Salvia, De Suez, Belloy and the Trianon say they have no room for wheelchair users, and the Lapin Blanc says the building is not accessible to them.
Frequently asked questions
Which hotel is closest to the Sorbonne?
The Select Hôtel Rive Gauche, at 1 place de la Sorbonne, about 50 metres from the university by our measure from the coordinates. The Design Sorbonne is next at 60 metres, then the Salvia and the French Theory on rue Cujas at 80.
Is the Hôtel Cluny-Sorbonne in this list?
No. It stands next to the Design Sorbonne, but we left it out because it is absent from the Atout France register of rated hotels, so we cannot print a star rating for it. Its website mentions a stay by Rimbaud in 1872, according to the hotel.
Is the Grand Hôtel Saint Michel near the place Saint-Michel?
No. It is at 19 rue Cujas, about 100 metres from the Sorbonne, and about 620 metres in a straight line from the Saint-Michel fountain.
Which metro stations serve the Sorbonne hotels?
In our data, every hotel on the list is within seven minutes on foot of Cluny-La Sorbonne (line 10). All but the Korner Sorbonne also have Luxembourg (RER B) or Odéon (lines 4 and 10) within seven minutes.
Is this a quiet area to sleep?
Nothing in the hotels' own information, as recorded in our data, warns about noise. We publish no guest scores, so ask the hotel which side of the building your room faces.
