Rue Cujas, in the Sorbonne area

Hotel French Theory is at 18 rue Cujas, in the 5th arrondissement, in the Sorbonne and Panthéon area. There is no metro on the doorstep. Luxembourg station (RER B) and Cluny–La Sorbonne (line 10) are six minutes on foot, and Odéon (lines 4 and 10) seven. Atout France lists the hotel as Hôtel French Theory Quartier Latin and classified it three stars on 19 March 2025, for 48 rooms.

It is independent, with no chain displayed. Its character is not that of a plain hotel. The house presents itself as a hybrid: a specialty coffee shop with beans from the roaster Coutume, a cellar and a bar of more than 130 natural wines open from 8 in the morning to 10 at night, a concept store under a glass roof, and an audio lounge with a recording studio of 10 m² that holds up to eight people and is open round the clock by reservation. It also runs a public programme of literary meetings, tastings, private views and drawing workshops.

Rooms and services

The 48 rooms are in a minimal retro-chic décor that, in the hotel’s words, leaves centre stage to the illustrators; some categories have Bang & Olufsen speakers, books and a record player. Air conditioning is listed in every category. The Quadruple “Classmate” room has four single beds. The menu of the site says “restaurant”, but what it describes is a coffee shop and brunch from 7 to 2, and a Dîner Club held only on privatisation: do not book it expecting a dining room. The terrace is on rue Cujas, not a courtyard. The hotel says it is accessible to reduced-mobility guests but describes no adapted room, and pets are not mentioned.

Against the neighbours

On the same street, the Grand Cœur Latin is a four-star of 75 rooms at number 20, and the Grand Hôtel Saint-Michel a four-star of 47 at number 19. French Theory is the three-star of the three, with 48 rooms. The Sorbonne and the Panthéon are both close; the block is described in hotels near the Panthéon.
