A four-star on rue Cujas, between the Sorbonne and the Luxembourg
The Grand Cœur Latin is at 20 rue Cujas, in the 5th arrondissement, a street that runs from the Sorbonne towards the Luxembourg garden. Atout France, the state body that issues French hotel stars, classified it four stars on 19 December 2024, for 75 rooms.
The street follows the southern edge of the old Collège de Cluny, founded in 1269, which Wikipedia confirms reached rue Cujas. The hotel says that its bar was built on the former cloister and that six months of excavation in 2022 revealed Roman-period remains under the spa. Neither claim is corroborated elsewhere; they are the hotel’s.
Spa, bar and rooms
The spa is the hotel’s main facility. Reserved for guests, it opens from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. with no booking and has a 15 m pool with a whirlpool area, a large hammam, and massages and treatments from Yon-Ka. The bar, beneath arcades with a view of the patio, runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. There is no restaurant.
Interiors are by Marie-Paule Clout and Vincent Bastie, with arches as the leitmotiv and four mineral colours. All rooms are air-conditioned. The family room joins two rooms for four people in 38 m²; the Junior Suite and the Suite also take up to four. One double room is listed as accessible to reduced mobility. Animals are not accepted, and neither a gym nor a car park is mentioned.
Getting there
The nearest stops are six or seven minutes away: Cluny-La Sorbonne on line 10, Luxembourg on the RER B and Odéon on lines 4 and 10. Our page on hotels near the Panthéon places the hotel in its sector, and the Sorbonne guide covers the walk.
Next door in rue Cujas
The Grand Hôtel Saint Michel, at no. 19, is directly across the street: four stars and 47 rooms, with a hammam but no pool. The Grand Cœur Latin has the larger spa, a bar and 75 rooms; the Saint Michel has a smaller house, a tea time in the lounge and two rooms listed as accessible. The Hôtel Observatoire Luxembourg offers a restaurant and a bar instead of a spa.
