The chapel of the Sorbonne, up the boulevard from the Observatoire Luxembourg; it shows the district, not the hotel

A renovated four-star on boulevard Saint-Michel

The Observatoire Luxembourg is at 107 boulevard Saint-Michel, on the 5th-arrondissement side of the boulevard, where it nears the Luxembourg garden, about 150 metres away. Atout France, the state body that issues French hotel stars, classified it four stars on 24 November 2022, for 41 rooms. The hotel itself speaks of 40 rooms after a complete redesign in 2025; since the classification predates the works, we keep the official figure of 41.

The hotel is independent and holds the Clef Verte label, awarded in early 2026 according to its site.

Restaurant, bar and rooms

It is the only four-star of the Sorbonne and Panthéon sector in our base with both a restaurant and a bar. Le Luco serves home-cooked Parisian cuisine all day and takes reservations through TheFork; a bar in the lobby makes cocktails, among them a “Saint-Germain Spritz”. Room service is available, and the hotel prepares picnic baskets for the Luxembourg garden.

Rooms are in a Parisian-apartment style, air-conditioned in every category. The Signature room, 29 m², takes one to four and the hotel calls it ideal for a family; it communicates with a Classic room for a party of six. The Privilège room, 35 m² and on the ground floor, takes up to four and is the accessible one. A view is promised with caution: categories advertise either a garden view or a clear view of the boulevard corner, and only the top-floor Signature speaks of the garden. There is no spa. Pets and parking are not mentioned.

Getting around

Luxembourg station, RER B, is three minutes on foot; Port Royal, also on the RER B, is seven. For the metro one has to walk further towards the Sorbonne or Odéon. The Panthéon guide and our page on hotels near the Luxembourg garden cover what lies around.

Beside the others

The Grand Hôtel Saint Michel (47 rooms, about 650 m on foot) and the Hôtel Grand Cœur Latin (75 rooms, about 700 m) have spas; the Observatoire has neither a pool nor a hammam but has a restaurant, which they lack. The Select Hôtel Rive Gauche, four stars with 65 rooms and about 750 m away, has a bar and no restaurant. The Observatoire is the smallest of these four.
