A four-star beside the Institut océanographique

The hotel is at 29 rue Gay-Lussac, near its corner with rue Saint-Jacques, south of the Panthéon in the 5th arrondissement. The Panthéon is about six minutes away on foot and the Val-de-Grâce four. Atout France, the official body behind French hotel stars, classified it four stars on 13 August 2024, for 29 rooms.

Its address is shared with the Institut océanographique de Paris, built by Henri-Paul Nénot in 1911 and listed as a historic monument. The listing record names both 195 rue Saint-Jacques and 29 rue Gay-Lussac, but on OpenStreetMap the hotel stands in a separate building adjoining the institute, so we do not describe it as a listed building.

The hotel belongs to no chain.

Oak floors and a suite for four

The rooms are floored in solid French oak, and those on the corner look onto the junction of rue Saint-Jacques and rue Gay-Lussac. Air conditioning is reversible, so it heats as well as cools. Two rooms are adapted for guests with reduced mobility.

The family suite, 34 m² in two bedrooms, has a 160 cm double bed in one room and two 90 cm single beds in the other. There is no restaurant. Breakfast is served in the breakfast room or brought up at no extra charge, and room service can also bring drinks “from the bar”, although no staffed bar is described. For couples, the hotel sells a package with rose petals, macarons and champagne.

Four-stars within four minutes

Five other four-stars lie within four minutes on foot. A three-minute walk away, the Hôtel Relais Saint Jacques has Panthéon-view Deluxe rooms and a family room for six; Hôtel Le Petit Paris, on rue Saint-Jacques, has 20 rooms decorated by Sybille de Margerie, some with a terrace or a balcony. Three minutes away, in the impasse Royer-Collard, the Hôtel Les Jardins du Luxembourg adds a staffed bar lounge, and on the place du Panthéon the Hôtel Les Dames du Panthéon has a bar under a glass roof facing the monument. The Hôtel Observatoire Luxembourg, on boulevard Saint-Michel, also four minutes away, is the only one of these six hotels with a restaurant.

For the Jardin du Luxembourg, allow about eight minutes on foot; RER B Luxembourg, four minutes from the hotel, is also the way to the rest of Paris.

Frequently asked questions

What can be verified about Hotel Les Rives Oceanik?

We do not rate Les Rives Oceanik and carry no guest reviews. What can be checked is a recent four-star classification (August 2024), 29 rooms including two adapted ones and a family suite for four; what is missing is a restaurant, a staffed bar and any metro line nearby.

Is the hotel inside the Institut océanographique?

Not as far as we can establish. The heritage record of the Institut océanographique lists 29 rue Gay-Lussac among its addresses, but OpenStreetMap places the hotel in the building next door, and nothing confirms that the protected parts include the hotel.

How many people can stay in the family suite at Les Rives Oceanik?

Four. The two-bedroom suite measures 34 m², with a 160 cm double bed in one room and two 90 cm single beds in the other.

Is breakfast served in the room?

Yes. The hotel serves breakfast in the breakfast room or in your room, and states that room service for breakfast costs nothing extra.

How is the name spelt?

The hotel writes Oceanik without an accent; the Atout France register writes OCÉANIK, with one. Both forms refer to the four-star at 29 rue Gay-Lussac.
