23 rue Serpente, 75006 Paris · 23 rooms
Twenty-three rooms, all different, on rue Serpente between Saint-André-des-Arts and the École de Médecine. The hotel dates its house and beams to the seventeenth century, a claim we found no listing to confirm. It belongs to the Hotels en Ville collection. The triple room is 16 m², there is no room for four, and the hotel is not adapted for reduced mobility.
The test has two parts that anyone can check. First, the hotel must show, on its own website, a deliberate interior: a named decorator or architect, a historical or literary theme, or rooms dressed one by one. Second, it must have no more than 23 rooms, a threshold that keeps the true small houses out of the 110 hotels of our base. Fourteen hotels pass. They are ordered by number of rooms, smallest first, with ties broken by name.
We do not judge taste. A theme counts because the hotel states it, and when a story about a building rests only on the hotel’s word we say so. Stars are those of the Atout France register, with the date of each decision shown on the card. Every hotel was confirmed open on its own website on 4 October 2026, and none pays to be listed.
Where they are
Two clusters hold eight of the fourteen. Rue Gît-le-Cœur and rue de l’Hirondelle, just off the place Saint-Michel, shelter the Relais Hôtel du Vieux Paris, Villa d’Estrées, Résidence des Arts and Le Clos Notre Dame. Around the Odéon, on the 6th-arrondissement side, stand Le Relais Médicis, Du Savoir, Relais Saint-Germain and Du Lys. These eight addresses sit on the 6th-arrondissement side, on the border between the Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain.
The others are scattered: Les Rives de Notre Dame on the quai Saint-Michel, Résidence Henri IV on rue des Bernardins, Les Jardins du Luxembourg and Le Petit Paris towards the Luxembourg garden, Le Relais Saint Jacques on the rue de l’Abbé-de-l’Épée, and Garance by the Gobelins. For the wider choice around each landmark, see hotels near Notre-Dame and hotels near the Panthéon; for the whole district, hotels in the 5th arrondissement.
Small hotels trade services for character. Relais Saint-Germain is the only one of the fourteen with a restaurant on site, while Les Jardins du Luxembourg runs a bar lounge and Le Relais Saint Jacques an honesty bar. Several state in writing that they are not adapted for reduced mobility: Villa d’Estrées, Résidence des Arts, Résidence Henri IV, Relais Hôtel du Vieux Paris, Relais Saint-Germain and Du Lys. Breakfast is sometimes served in a neighbouring house of the same group, as Villa d’Estrées does, taking its breakfast at the Résidence des Arts opposite.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as a boutique hotel in this list?
We kept the hotels that present themselves with a signed, themed or individually dressed interior in our database, and that have 23 rooms or fewer. Fourteen hotels pass both tests, from ten rooms at Les Rives de Notre Dame to 23 at Hôtel du Lys. A hotel with 44 rooms that calls itself a boutique hotel is left out.
Which boutique hotels are in the 5th arrondissement and which in the 6th?
Six sit in the 5th — Les Rives de Notre Dame, Résidence Henri IV, Les Jardins du Luxembourg, Le Petit Paris, Le Relais Saint Jacques and Garance. The other eight are on the 6th side, around rue Gît-le-Cœur, rue de l'Hirondelle, the Odéon and rue Serpente.
Are boutique hotels in the Latin Quarter expensive?
Nine of the fourteen are four-star, with a price band of €€€ estimated from the official category; five are three-star (€€). We quote no room rates, which change nightly.
Which of these hotels is closest to a metro station?
Les Rives de Notre Dame, Le Clos Notre Dame and the three hotels of rue Gît-le-Cœur are all one minute from Saint-Michel Notre-Dame, which has line 4 and RER B and C for the airports. Relais Saint-Germain is one minute from Odéon, and Les Jardins du Luxembourg one minute from Luxembourg.
Which boutique hotels can accommodate a family?
Villa d'Estrées has quadruples of 30–35 m², Résidence des Arts a suite for six, Résidence Henri IV an apartment for four and a family room for six, and Le Relais Saint Jacques a family room for up to six. Check each hotel's own page for the exact configuration.
