Rue Serpente, near Saint-Michel

The Hôtel du Lys is at no. 23 rue Serpente, a short street in the 6th arrondissement between rue Saint-André-des-Arts and rue de l’École-de-Médecine, about 150 metres from place Saint-Michel. It belongs to the strip where the Latin Quarter meets Saint-Germain. France’s official classification, run by Atout France, has rated it three-star since 23 January 2023, for 23 rooms; the hotel’s website does not display the stars.

It belongs to the Hotels en Ville collection, a hotel management company.

Rooms and services

The 23 rooms are all different, with air conditioning listed among their equipment. The lobby mixes wood accents and tapestries. The largest room is a triple of 16 m²; families of four will need two rooms.

The hotel states that it is not adapted for guests with reduced mobility. There is no bar and no restaurant: breakfast is served in the lobby or brought to the room. Pets and parking are not covered on the website, which simply points drivers of electric cars to the Belib’ charging points on rue Danton.

Saint-Michel, Odéon and the neighbouring hotels

On our walking estimates, place Saint-Michel is two minutes away, the Musée de Cluny three, the Sorbonne and the Collège de France about seven, and the square in front of Notre-Dame eight. Odéon and Saint-Michel Notre-Dame are both two minutes away. Odéon has lines 4 and 10; Saint-Michel has the RER B and C, while its line 4 platforms are closed until 19 December 2026 (City of Paris works notice).

Among the three-stars within two minutes, the Hôtel Eugénie on rue Saint-André-des-Arts has 28 rooms and brings breakfast to the room free of charge on request; the Hôtel Cluny Square, on boulevard Saint-Michel, has 30 rooms and a top-floor suite that, says the hotel, looks toward the Eiffel Tower; the Hôtel Résidence des Arts, on rue Gît-le-Cœur, has only 11 rooms but suites for up to six. At the other end of the scale, the four-star Hôtel Dame des Arts on rue Danton has 109 rooms, a restaurant and a rooftop bar. For a two-star option two minutes away, see the Hôtel Saint-Pierre.
