Rue Racine, towards the Odéon

Le Relais Médicis is at 23 rue Racine, in the 6th arrondissement, on the side of the street that leads to the place de l’Odéon. We list it among the Odéon hotels; in plain terms it sits on the border between the Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain, a short walk from both. Odéon (lines 4 and 10) takes four minutes on foot, Cluny-La Sorbonne (line 10) six and Saint-Michel Notre-Dame seven; line 4 is closed there until 19 December 2026, leaving RER B and C. The Palais du Luxembourg is about 200 metres away on foot, the Sorbonne about 400.

Atout France, the state body that awards French hotel stars, classified it four stars on 23 February 2023, for 17 rooms. It is independent and shows no chain. The hotel presents its house as an 18th-century listed building on place de l’Odéon; no record we consulted confirms that for no. 23, so it stays the hotel’s claim.

Rooms and the inner garden

According to the hotel, the decoration is Italian Renaissance with touches of Provence: fabric-covered walls, panelling, old paintings, sepia photographs and restored antiques. Sixteen rooms and one suite are arranged around an inner garden, and a cosy lounge with a fireplace looks on to the patio. How far guests can use the patio is not written, and a photograph captioned “the hotel bar” has no service described, so we count neither.

For families the offer is specific. Two Deluxe Family rooms of 31 m² take up to four, and the Junior Suite has a communicating room, also for up to four. One room is set aside for guests with reduced mobility, the rooms are air-conditioned, and breakfast is served in the room at no extra charge. There is no spa and no restaurant, and the hotel mentions a paying public car park 200 metres away.

Against the neighbours

Rue Racine has several hotels. The Hôtel Belloy Saint-Germain, a four-star of 50 rooms at no. 2, is nearly three times the size. The Hôtel du Savoir, a three-star of 20 rooms at no. 1, is closer in scale. On place de l’Odéon, the Hôtel Michelet Odéon has 42 rooms. Two other four-stars are of similar size: the Relais Saint-Germain, 22 rooms at the Odéon crossroads, about 300 metres away, and Les Jardins du Luxembourg, 19 rooms, about 650 metres away. Our guide to the Luxembourg Gardens covers the walk, and our list of hotels around Odéon compares the block.

What is our verdict on the Relais Médicis?

No rating, no guest quote: only what we could check. In that record, the small scale, the inner garden, the family rooms and the walk to Odéon count for it; the lack of a spa, restaurant and parking count against it.
