A four-star on the Odéon fringe

The Hôtel Baume stands at 7 rue Casimir-Delavigne, a street our data places on the edge of the 6th arrondissement, between place de l’Odéon and rue Monsieur-le-Prince. Atout France, the state body that issues French hotel stars, last classified it on 9 November 2021: four stars, 35 rooms. It belongs to a small group, Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche.

Three stations are within a seven-minute walk: Odéon on lines 4 and 10 in four minutes, Cluny–La Sorbonne on line 10 in six, and Saint-Michel Notre-Dame, where the RER B and C stop, in seven.

Rooms and the Art Deco idea

The Baume’s premise is decorative, and the hotel states it plainly: the 1930s, played in five registers (cinema, jewellery, architecture and design, fashion, and a 1930s club). The hotel names no decorator.

The hotel puts the outlook first. According to it, the balcony suites look across the patio to the Odéon theatre, the Deluxe rooms have a 12 m² terrace facing the theatre, and a duplex lies under the roofs. Many other rooms overlook the patio, though the hotel does not say whether guests may use it. Air conditioning and communicating rooms are in the equipment list.

Services, and what is missing

A lounge under a glass roof acts as the common room, with an honesty bar: guests help themselves, no one serves. There is no restaurant, and room service runs round the clock. A private lounge of 30 m² seats a meeting of six. The “spa suite” is one cabin for treatments, also bookable by outsiders, and the hotel’s FAQ states that there is no spa. Accessibility is mentioned as a general heading, with no adapted room described. There is no parking, and pets are not mentioned.

Against the neighbours

Within the same fringe, the Hôtel Belloy Saint-Germain is also a four-star but with 50 rooms and a bar, where the Baume has 35 and no staffed bar. The Hôtel Relais Médicis has only 17 rooms at the same classification, which makes the Baume the larger of the two. For the surrounding blocks, our guide to the hotels on the Odéon side sets them out together. The Luxembourg garden has its own guide.

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly is the Hôtel Baume?

At 7 rue Casimir-Delavigne, in the 6th arrondissement, on the fringe of the Latin Quarter between place de l'Odéon and rue Monsieur-le-Prince. Odéon (lines 4 and 10) is about 300 metres away, Cluny–La Sorbonne 500 metres and Saint-Michel Notre-Dame 550 metres.

Does the Hôtel Baume have a spa or a restaurant?

Neither in the usual sense. The hotel lists a private "spa suite" with one treatment room, open to outside clients too, while its own FAQ says it has no spa. There is no restaurant; room service runs day and night.

What do the Art Deco themes mean for the rooms?

The hotel organises its decor around five themes taken from the 1930s. It does not name a decorator, so we do not attribute the design to anyone.

Is the Hôtel Baume good for families?

Communicating rooms are listed, which helps families travelling together. Pets are not mentioned, and the hotel names no parking.

What does a Hôtel Baume review come down to?

On checked facts: the Odéon-facing terraces, the theme-led decor and the air conditioning count in its favour; the absence of a restaurant, a staffed bar and parking count against it.
