Rue de Vaugirard, beside the garden
Hotel Le Sénat stands at 10 rue de Vaugirard, in the 6th arrondissement, and the Luxembourg garden is about 50 m away. It is not in the Latin Quarter proper: our data places it on the fringe of the 6th arrondissement, on the garden side, which is why we list it with the Odéon block. The metro is a walk away: Odéon (lines 4 and 10) takes five minutes, Cluny–La Sorbonne (line 10) six, and Luxembourg station on the RER B seven.
Atout France, the state body that awards French hotel stars, classified it four stars on 15 November 2022, for 41 rooms. It is independent: no chain or group is displayed. Wikipedia records that Émile Zola lived at number 10 for a time, in a flat on the sixth floor with a terrace over the garden. The hotel adds a date, 1866, and an earlier name, the Grand Hôtel de France; we give those as the hotel’s account, since Wikipedia does not carry them.
Rooms and services
The hotel says the whole house is air-conditioned. Its Family Rooms take three people with two sleeping areas, and a Triple Suite goes in the same direction, which gives a family of three a clear answer. The two Duplex Terrace rooms, on the sixth and seventh floors, have a private terrace; there is no shared one. Pets are accepted on request, with a daily charge. Breakfast is a buffet, and there is no restaurant. A bar appears in the list of services without a description, so we cannot say whether it is staffed. The site states that all 41 rooms can receive guests with reduced mobility but describes no adapted room, and parking is not mentioned.
Against the neighbours
On the same street, the Trianon Rive Gauche is a four-star of 110 rooms at 1 bis rue de Vaugirard, nearly three times the size. The Fontaines du Luxembourg, at number 4, is a three-star of 30 rooms. Towards Odéon, the Relais Médicis is a four-star of 17 rooms on rue Racine, about 100 metres away. The garden itself is covered in our guide to the Luxembourg gardens, and the whole block in hotels near Odéon.
