Rue Monsieur-le-Prince, by the garden

Le Clos Médicis is at 56 rue Monsieur-le-Prince, in the 6th arrondissement, on the southern stretch of the street, about 100 metres from the Luxembourg garden. It is on the edge of the Latin Quarter on the Luxembourg side, with the Sorbonne about 190 metres away and the Palais du Luxembourg about 210. Luxembourg station, on the RER B, is five minutes on foot; Odéon (lines 4 and 10) and Cluny-La Sorbonne (line 10) are seven.

Atout France, the state body that awards French hotel stars, classified it three stars on 17 May 2022, for 38 rooms. It is listed under the Teritoria name, a hotel collection.

A stone bar and small rooms

The hotel describes its bar and lounge as having stone walls and exposed beams; the bar is said to be open day and night, though the way drinks are served is not stated. There is a patio, which doubles as the smokers’ space, and a terrace is listed among the services. Some walls of the breakfast room date from the 12th century, the hotel says; we have not been able to check that against a heritage record, so it stays the hotel’s claim.

The rooms are small, from 11 to 15 m² and for two people at most; the Classic rooms are described as Renaissance in style. Air conditioning is fitted, and babysitting can be arranged on request. The hotel says it is accessible to wheelchair users, but the reduced-mobility room is announced as opening soon. Pets are not allowed. A covered public car park three minutes away is not attached to the hotel.

Against the neighbours

On rue Monsieur-le-Prince, the Hôtel Saint-Paul Rive Gauche, a four-star of 31 rooms at no. 43, is the step up, and the two-star Hôtel Villa des Princes, 11 rooms at no. 19, the step down. Among three-stars, the Hôtel Les Fontaines du Luxembourg, at the other end of rue de Vaugirard, has 30 rooms, and the Hôtel Michelet Odéon 42. The four-star Hôtel Relais Médicis has 17 rooms. Our Luxembourg Gardens guide covers the neighbourhood, and the list of hotels around Odéon compares them.

No. The hotel gives 11 to 15 m² for two people at most.

What does a Clos Médicis review come down to?

There is no mark and no guest quote on this page. On the checked record, the garden at the door, the bar, the patio and the air conditioning count for it; the small rooms, the ban on pets and the RER-only station count against it.
