Twenty rooms on rue Saint-Jacques

Hotel Le Petit Paris is at 214 rue Saint-Jacques, in the 5th arrondissement, roughly 200 metres from rue Soufflot. Atout France, the state body that awards French hotel stars, classified it four stars on 7 December 2021, for 20 rooms. It is one of seven four-stars with 20 rooms or fewer among the 41 in our database. The only station within a short walk is Luxembourg, on RER B, three minutes away and our data lists no metro station within walking range, so this is a base for walkers.

The group Elegancia lists the hotel among its “hotels under management”; the hotel carries no chain sign of its own. It presents itself as a boutique hotel, and its account of the house is a rich one: a post relay under Louis XV, a town house under Napoleon III, an artists’ lodging in the Belle Époque, then Jim Morrison’s refuge in the summer of 1970. No heritage record we consulted confirms it, so it stays the hotel’s story.

Rooms and services

Sybille de Margerie decorated the rooms, with Lelièvre and Frey fabrics, silks and velvets. The Superior room, 18 m², is described as adapted for reduced mobility. For groups there are a Triple Deluxe for three and a Quadruple Deluxe for four, which has a double bed, a sofa bed and a staircase inside the room. Several Double Deluxe and Triple rooms have a terrace, a balcony or a view over the roofs; the balcony depends on availability. The hotel holds the European Ecolabel.

There is no bar and no restaurant. Tea and coffee are offered in the afternoon in the lounge, and a continental breakfast can be brought to the room. The site does not mention air conditioning, pets or parking, so ask before booking if any of these is a condition. A package with a romantic welcome in the room, half a bottle of Taittinger and late departure is among the offers listed.

Against the neighbours

The nearest four-star, about 110 metres away, is Les Jardins du Luxembourg, with 19 rooms on impasse Royer-Collard. Les Dames du Panthéon, about 185 metres away, has 35 rooms, and the Hôtel Relais Saint-Jacques, about 255 metres away on rue de l’Abbé-de-l’Épée, has 22. Our guide to the hotels around the Panthéon sets the four side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Hotel Le Petit Paris?

At 214 rue Saint-Jacques, in the 5th arrondissement, about 200 metres from rue Soufflot. The nearest station is Luxembourg on RER B, three minutes on foot; the hotel lists no metro station within that range.

Does Le Petit Paris have a bar or restaurant?

Neither. Tea and coffee are offered in the afternoon in the lounge, and a continental breakfast can be served in the room.

Which rooms have a terrace or balcony?

The hotel lists a terrace, a balcony or a rooftop view for its Double Deluxe and Triple rooms, with the balcony subject to availability. Ask for the room by category when you book.

Is the story of Jim Morrison at Le Petit Paris true?

It is the hotel’s own account, together with the post relay and Napoleon III town house, and we found no heritage record that confirms it. We pass it on as the hotel’s.

What does a Hotel Le Petit Paris review come down to?

On checked facts, the size, the rooms for four and the terrace rooms count for it; the single nearby station and the absence of a bar or air-conditioning information count against it.
