A small three-star at the Gobelins end of the 5th

Hôtel Garance stands at no. 18 avenue des Gobelins, on the even-numbered side of the avenue, which belongs to the 5th arrondissement. Paris is divided into twenty numbered arrondissements, and the 5th is the core of the Latin Quarter. This guide files the hotel under its Jardin des Plantes area, but the address really sits at the southern, Gobelins end of the district.

The stars shown above come from Atout France, the national tourism agency that runs the official classification; Hôtel Garance has held three since January 2024. The website displays no chain or group. With 21 rooms it is the smallest hotel within 500 metres on foot in our database — Hôtel de France Quartier Latin, also a three-star, has thirty, and its other neighbours range from 25 to 50.

Rooms and breakfast

Every room is air-conditioned, and the hotel says each one is decorated individually, in greys crossed by red graphic lines. The largest category is a triple with a double bed and a single; a family of four would need two rooms. The services list mentions access for guests with reduced mobility, but no room is described as adapted, so we do not list one.

There is no restaurant and no bar. Breakfast is served from 7 to 10 a.m. in the breakfast room or brought up to the room, and a lounge acts as the shared space. Drivers are pointed to a paid public car park nearby that the hotel does not run.

Around the hotel, and the alternatives

Les Gobelins, on line 7, is the nearest station: the hotel gives 80 metres, while our estimate from its coordinates, using the method described on every page, is about 250 metres. Censier-Daubenton, on the same line, is about five minutes away. The Église Saint-Médard is roughly four minutes on foot; the Val-de-Grâce is about 750 metres away and the place de la Contrescarpe about 785.

Some 45 metres away, Hôtel Port-Royal is a one-star with 43 rooms, the lowest category on the same stretch. Among three-stars, Hôtel Maxim Quartier Latin, about 330 metres away, lists family rooms and accepts pets, and the Five Boutique Hotel, at about 345 metres, has 25 rooms. Travellers who want a pool and a restaurant under the same roof should compare Hôtel Monte Cristo, a four-star about 155 metres away.
