At the foot of the Mouffetard quarter

Hôtel Maxim Quartier Latin stands at no. 28 rue Censier, practically on top of Censier-Daubenton station and close to the lower end of rue Mouffetard, where the Église Saint-Médard is two minutes away. The address is in the 5th arrondissement.

France’s hotel stars are awarded by Atout France, the national tourism development agency, rather than by guidebooks or booking sites; the Maxim has been a three-star since January 2023. The official register counts 33 rooms, the website 32 keys. It is a member of the Hotels en Ville collection, a management and consultancy firm that claims 27 boutique hotels.

“Arty atelier” rooms, balconies on the top floor

The look is what the hotel calls an “arty atelier”: exposed stonework, a glass roof over the breakfast room, period pieces mixed with flea-market finds, herbarium frames and botanical patterns in the bedrooms. Every room is air-conditioned. The two top categories are the most distinctive — the Deluxe room and the Family Suite on the sixth floor both have balconies with views over the Paris rooftops, and the Suite has a fifth-floor balcony of its own.

Families have two options for four people: the Family Suite, which uses a sofa bed, or two adjacent rooms. Dogs and other pets are welcome. There is no bar or restaurant; a buffet breakfast is laid out under the glass roof and room service runs from noon to 11.30 p.m. A romantic package with champagne and macarons appears among the offers. The hotel has no car park and only points drivers to the Indigo Patriarches public car park.

Around rue Censier, and how it compares

Line 7 serves three stations within eight minutes: Censier-Daubenton at the door, Place Monge about five minutes away and Les Gobelins about eight. On foot, the place de la Contrescarpe is about eight minutes, the Arènes de Lutèce nine, the Val-de-Grâce ten, the Jardin des Plantes eleven and the Panthéon thirteen.

Five other three-stars lie within 500 metres on foot: Hôtel de France Quartier Latin, Hôtel Garance, Hôtel Saint-Christophe, Best Western Quartier Latin Panthéon and Hôtel Apolonia Paris Mouffetard. Hôtel de France Quartier Latin, on rue Monge, is closest at 150 metres; its triples sleep three at most, and it accepts neither pets nor guests with reduced mobility. Hôtel Saint-Christophe, on rue Lacépède, has a ground-floor room adapted for reduced mobility but no beds for a third adult. Hôtel Garance, on avenue des Gobelins, about 450 metres away, has 21 rooms and no space for four. About 650 metres away, The Five offers a four-person apartment, but its nearest station is eight minutes away.
