The upper boulevard Saint-Michel

The Hôtel des Mines is at 125 boulevard Saint-Michel, in the 5th arrondissement, between the Luxembourg garden and Port-Royal. The Val-de-Grâce is about 390 metres away and the Luxembourg garden about 480. We list it with the Sorbonne and Panthéon hotels by default, but the address lies outside our central grid. The hotel says it is named after the neighbouring École des Mines, which we have not checked against another source.

Transport is by the RER B only: Port-Royal and Luxembourg are each about five minutes on foot, and no metro station is closer. Atout France, the state body that awards French hotel stars, re-rated the hotel on 15 April 2026 and classifies it three stars, for 49 rooms. The hotel is independent. Its own site uses the words four-star in places; the register’s three are the figure we use.

Rooms, bar and courtyard

Air conditioning runs through every category. Two rooms are adapted for reduced mobility, and the Privilège room takes up to four people. The Signature rooms sit under the roof on the sixth floor, with exposed beams; the lift stops at the fifth floor, and a small staircase leads up. A meeting room seats fourteen.

The bar has an indoor space and an open-air terrace, and breakfast is served in the inner courtyard. No restaurant is mentioned, and nor is parking. Pets are accepted for a nightly charge, to be arranged with reception. The hotel lists eco-responsible partners: Unisoap, IDE Green, L’Arbre Bleu and the Boulangerie du Val-de-Grâce.

Along the boulevard

Six hotels of this guide stand on boulevard Saint-Michel. Lower down, the Hôtel de Suez, a three-star of 48 rooms at no. 31, is the closest in size and category, and the four-star Hôtel Le Lapin Blanc, 30 rooms at no. 41, is the step up. Just below, at no. 107, is the Hôtel Observatoire Luxembourg, a four-star of 41 rooms. Off the boulevard, the three-star Hôtel Beauvoir, 29 rooms on avenue Georges-Bernanos, faces the Port-Royal RER station. Our list of hotels around the Panthéon puts them together, and the Luxembourg Gardens guide covers the walk.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Hôtel des Mines a three-star or a four-star?

Three stars, according to Atout France, which re-rated it on 15 April 2026. The hotel’s own site uses the words four-star in places; only the register’s classification counts for us.

Does the hotel have a bar?

Yes, with an indoor area and an open-air terrace, according to the hotel. Breakfast is served in the inner courtyard.

Are pets accepted?

Yes. The hotel describes itself as pets friendly, with a nightly charge, and asks guests to tell reception in advance.

Which metro is nearest?

None: Port-Royal and Luxembourg, both on the RER B, are about five minutes away on foot.

What are the strong and weak points of the Hôtel des Mines?

We award no mark and reproduce no guest remarks. From the checked facts, the bar, the courtyard, the pets policy and the two adapted rooms count for it; the lack of a metro line and of a restaurant, and the stairs to the sixth floor, count against it.
