No. 31 boulevard Saint-Michel

No. 31 boulevard Saint-Michel faces the garden of the Musée de Cluny, in the block between the Sorbonne and boulevard Saint-Germain. This is the 5th arrondissement, the historic Latin Quarter, rather than the 6th across the boulevard. The hotel calls itself a boutique hotel; with 48 rooms, it is larger than the median of 35 rooms across the 110 hotels in this guide. Atout France, the national body that awards official hotel stars, classified it three-star on 9 January 2024, and its register lists the same 48 rooms.

The hotel is independent: the sources we consulted show no chain or group affiliation.

Rooms and services

Every room has individual air conditioning. Families can choose between a superior triple and, for four people, pairs of communicating rooms of 28 m². The Suite Champollion has a private terrace on the roof — the only outdoor space in the building, since there is no shared rooftop. On the other side, some rooms overlook Le Champo, the cinema on rue Champollion.

Services are kept simple. There is no restaurant and no bar, but a drinks service (soft drinks and alcohol) and a self-service water fountain. No room is adapted for wheelchair users; one is equipped for guests with hearing loss. Pets are not admitted, and the nearest car park is a paid public one that the hotel does not manage.

Around the hotel, and how it compares

On our walking estimates, the Musée de Cluny and the Sorbonne are each about two minutes away, the Collège de France about four, rue Soufflot five and the Palais du Luxembourg six.

Seven other three-star hotels stand within about three minutes’ walk. Hôtel Central Saint-Germain, about 50 metres away on rue Champollion, is smaller at 35 rooms but lists two rooms for guests with reduced mobility, which de Suez does not offer. Hôtel du Savoir, on rue Racine, has only 20 rooms and accepts pets. French Theory, on rue Cujas, matches the Suez’s 48 rooms and adds a wine bar. Three minutes away on rue Victor-Cousin, the Hôtel Design Sorbonne sells Deluxe rooms with a view of the university; for a two-star alternative just across boulevard Saint-Michel, see the Hôtel Saint-Pierre.
