A Saint-Germain name on rue Champollion

The Hôtel Central Saint-Germain is at 3 rue Champollion, in the 5th arrondissement, a street lined with cinemas between rue des Écoles and the place de la Sorbonne. The name points to Saint-Germain-des-Prés, which is not where it stands: this is the Sorbonne and Panthéon sector of the Latin Quarter. The hotel’s own description places it between the Sorbonne and boulevard Saint-Michel. Cluny–La Sorbonne (line 10) is three minutes’ walk, Saint-Michel Notre-Dame (RER B and C) four, Odéon (lines 4 and 10) five. The line 4 stop at Saint-Michel Notre-Dame is closed until 19 December 2026 for works (Paris.fr, checked October 2026). Our guide to the Sorbonne covers the university at the end of the street.

Atout France, the state body that issues French hotel stars, classified it three stars on 8 June 2022, for 35 rooms. The hotel is independent, with no group displayed.

Rooms and services

It is a five-storey house whose rooms, all renovated, are decorated in what the hotel calls a romantic Parisian style. All 35 are air-conditioned. For families there is a room for four people, 22 m², with two double beds, and a triple with three single beds; a baby cot is free for the under-fives. Two rooms are equipped for reduced mobility.

Breakfast is a buffet, served in the dining room; a lounge sits by reception. There is no restaurant and no bar. Parking and pets are not mentioned on the site.

Among its neighbours

On the boulevard Saint-Michel side, the Hôtel de Suez is also three stars, with 48 rooms and air conditioning. The Hôtel Design Sorbonne, a three-star of 38 rooms, is on rue Victor-Cousin, and the four-star Hôtel Mercure Paris La Sorbonne has 47 rooms, a bar and a planted patio. At 35 rooms the Central is the smallest of the four. See the hotels near the Panthéon for the rest.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Hôtel Central Saint-Germain in Saint-Germain-des-Prés?

No, in spite of the name. It is at 3 rue Champollion, in the 5th arrondissement, between rue des Écoles and the place de la Sorbonne. Saint-Michel Notre-Dame is four minutes’ walk and Odéon five.

How is the Hôtel Central Saint-Germain written?

With or without a hyphen: the hotel’s own site uses both. Atout France lists it as Hôtel Central Saint Germain, three stars, 35 rooms, classified on 8 June 2022.

Does the Hôtel Central Saint-Germain have family rooms?

Yes. There is a family room for four with two double beds, 22 m², and a triple room with three single beds. A baby cot is offered for children under five.

Are there accessible rooms?

The Rooms page lists two rooms equipped for people with reduced mobility.

What does a Hôtel Central Saint-Germain review come down to?

On checked facts: the family room, the air conditioning and the position by the Sorbonne weigh for it; the misleading name, the lack of a bar and the silence on parking weigh against it.
