Behind the Sorbonne, on rue Victor-Cousin

The hotel is at no. 6 rue Victor-Cousin, the street behind the Sorbonne in the 5th arrondissement, with rue Soufflot two minutes away. Atout France — whose register is the official record of French hotel stars — classified it three-star on 21 September 2026, with 38 rooms. The site agrees on 38, although the room breakdown in its FAQ adds up to 39.

It is one of the Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche, a group that also includes the Hôtel des Grands Hommes on place du Panthéon, Hôtel Baume, Salvia, Les Dames du Panthéon and the St André des Arts.

Design rooms with a view of the university

The name sets the tone: acid colours, thick geometric carpets and, according to the site, Smart TVs in place of the iMacs that still appear in older photographs. The categories with a view are the Deluxe, which faces the Sorbonne and, depending on the floor, the Panthéon, and the two Top Floor rooms under the roof, which look at the dome; one has a lion-footed bathtub. Some other rooms overlook a paved inner courtyard, which is not described as open to guests. The single Family Room joins two bedrooms in 31 m² for up to four adults. Air conditioning is included in the room equipment.

The hotel’s FAQ claims access for reduced mobility, but no adapted room appears in the list of rooms — ask before booking. Only certified assistance and support animals are accepted. Breakfast is a buffet in the lounge; there is no bar, restaurant, spa or parking.

Around the Sorbonne

On our walking estimates, the Sorbonne is a minute away, rue Soufflot two, the Musée de Cluny and the Collège de France five, the Panthéon six. Cluny-La Sorbonne (line 10) and Luxembourg (RER B) are both about six minutes on foot, Odéon seven.

Next door at no. 8, the Hôtel Cluny-Sorbonne (23 rooms) is not classified by Atout France, according to our records. A minute away, French Theory, also a three-star, is larger at 48 rooms and has a wine bar; Le Clos Médicis, two minutes away on rue Monsieur-le-Prince, adds a bar-lounge and a patio. Within the same group, the four-star Salvia on rue Cujas has a bar and room service. Three minutes away, the Hôtel Madeleine de Senlis offers an indoor pool at the same star level.
