Behind the Sorbonne, on a street of its own
The Hôtel Cluny-Sorbonne stands at 8 rue Victor-Cousin, a street in the 5th arrondissement that runs behind the Sorbonne, next door to the Hôtel Design Sorbonne. It belongs to the Sorbonne and Panthéon sector of the Latin Quarter, and the Sorbonne itself is the landmark across the way. Cluny–La Sorbonne on line 10 and Luxembourg on the RER B are each about six minutes on foot, and Odéon, on lines 4 and 10, about seven.
It is a small house of 23 rooms. The company that runs it, listed in the business register as the Société Hôtelière Cluny-Sorbonne, dates from 1964, and the hotel says the same family has operated it since the 1960s–70s. On stars: the hotel does not display any, and it is absent from the Atout France list of classified accommodation as we checked it on 4 October 2026, so we print none.
Rooms and what is, and is not, there
Every room has a private shower room, a flat-screen television, a telephone and free wifi. Breakfast runs from 7.30 to 9.30 in a breakfast room, and there is a lounge. Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out at 12:00. The English version of the rooms page shows a quadruple room described as the family room; the French page lists only doubles, one large bed or two beds, so ask which is current.
The site says nothing of a lift, air conditioning, an accessible room or pets, and offers no restaurant or bar. The only parking mentioned is a public car park about 100 metres away, at the corner of rue Soufflot, cited for information.
The Rimbaud room, and the history claims
The hotel says Arthur Rimbaud lodged here in June 1872 and wrote a collection of poems in room 62. Only the plaque at number 8 is independently recorded, on Wikipedia’s page for the street. The account of an 18th-century town house later turned into workers’ lodgings and then a refuge for students is the hotel’s own, with no heritage listing to back it. The plaque is the verifiable part of the story.
Compared with its neighbours
Next door and nearby, the Hôtel Design Sorbonne is classified three stars with 38 rooms and air conditioning. The Hôtel du Brésil, on rue Le Goff, is a two-star of 29 rooms. The Cluny-Sorbonne, with 23 rooms, is smaller than both. Our page on the hotels near the Panthéon puts the sector side by side.

How many stars does the Hôtel Cluny-Sorbonne have?
None that we can show. It does not appear in the Atout France list of classified accommodation we checked on 4 October 2026, and its own site displays no stars. We therefore print none.
Does the Hôtel Cluny-Sorbonne have family rooms?
The English page of the hotel lists a quadruple room as its family room for four people. The French page lists only doubles, so confirm the room type before booking.
Is breakfast served, and is there a restaurant?
Breakfast is served in a dedicated room, with a lounge beside it. The hotel advertises neither a restaurant nor a bar.
What does a Hôtel Cluny-Sorbonne review come down to?
On checked facts: the address, the size and the family room count for it; the missing classification and the silence on lift and air conditioning count against it.
