Facing the Sorbonne, in the 5th

The Mercure Paris La Sorbonne is at 14 rue de la Sorbonne, in the 5th arrondissement, facing the university. Its full name, Hôtel Mercure Paris La Sorbonne Saint-Germain-des-Prés, suggests another district: the address is in the Latin Quarter, and the Accor page itself places it at the limit of the 5th and 6th arrondissements. Cluny–La Sorbonne (line 10) is three minutes on foot and Odéon (lines 4 and 10) six; Saint-Michel Notre-Dame is five, but line 4 is closed there until 19 December 2026, leaving RER B and RER C.

It is a hotel of the Mercure brand of the Accor group, classified four stars by Atout France on 2 December 2021, for 47 rooms. It calls the house fully renovated, with a contemporary décor, and gives no date for the works.

Rooms and services

All rooms are air-conditioned. Two types, the Standard Double and the Standard Twin, are marked accessible on the Accor page, which also states wheelchair access. A double room with a sofa bed takes up to three people; there is no room for four. The Bar de l’Université is the signature: open all day until 1 a.m., with a planted patio that smokers also use. There is no restaurant, only a buffet breakfast, taken in the room or in an express form at the bar, and room service. A public car park on rue Soufflot is cited for information; it is not the hotel’s own. Pets are not mentioned.

Against the neighbours

On place de la Sorbonne itself, the Select Hôtel Rive Gauche is a four-star of 65 rooms, against 47 here. The Design Sorbonne is a three-star of 38 rooms on rue Victor-Cousin. The same group’s Mercure Paris Notre-Dame, with the same 47 rooms and the same Saint-Germain-des-Prés in its name, is on rue du Sommerard, about 250 metres away. The two Mercure hotels each have a bar; only this one is described with a patio. Our guide to the Sorbonne covers the university; the area is laid out in hotels near the Panthéon.
