Rue de la Harpe, a minute from Saint-Michel
The Hôtel du Levant is at no. 18 rue de la Harpe, in the 5th arrondissement, a minute’s walk from Saint-Michel station. Atout France, the agency in charge of official hotel stars, classified it three stars on 16 February 2022, for 46 rooms.
The hotel calls itself family-run, and says that in 2019 the metalworkers Pouenat remade the entrance canopy to measure, copying the 1920 original. Both points come from the hotel alone.
Rooms for up to five
The 46 rooms each have their own décor, according to the hotel, and all of them are air-conditioned. Families have two options: quadruple rooms of 26 to 29 m², and suites for four or five people made of two communicating rooms. One room is adapted for guests with reduced mobility, with a caveat the hotel spells out: the lift is small, so a wheelchair user must transfer to a chair the hotel provides.
There is no bar or restaurant. The day starts with a buffet breakfast made with produce from the ferme du Viltain, and a lounge offers newspapers, books and a chess set. Pets are accepted. The hotel has no car park but lists five public ones nearby, and it can book an airport shuttle to Orly or Roissy.
Saint-Michel on the doorstep
Saint-Michel Notre-Dame, with the RER B and C, is about 50 metres away; its line 4 platforms are closed until 19 December 2026 (City of Paris works notice), but the RER stops are unaffected. Cluny-La Sorbonne, line 10, is two minutes away; Odéon, lines 4 and 10, four. On our walking estimates, the place Saint-Michel takes two minutes, the Cluny museum three, the parvis of Notre-Dame five.
Three three-star hotels stand close by. The Hôtel Europe Saint Séverin, about a minute away, is larger, with 59 rooms and an Italian restaurant, but its biggest room takes four; Hôtel Albe Saint-Michel, at no. 1 of the same street, has 43 rooms, nothing above three people and, by its own account, no access for wheelchairs. The Hôtel Cluny Square on the boulevard lists no triple or family room and no adapted room. Of the three, the Levant is the only one to list rooms for five and an adapted room.
