On a pedestrian street by Saint-Michel

The Europe Saint Séverin occupies nos. 38–40 rue Saint-Séverin, a pedestrian street of the 5th arrondissement a minute from the place Saint-Michel. Atout France, which awards official hotel stars in France, classified it three stars on 15 November 2021, for 59 rooms.

The hotel is independent, with no chain or group shown. The site points to the building’s age through its exposed beams and stone, without dating it. One piece of history comes from Wikipedia rather than the hotel: no. 40 was home to La Joie de lire, the bookshop of the publisher François Maspero, from 1957 to 1977.

Rooms for three and four, a restaurant downstairs

All 59 rooms have heating and air conditioning, the hotel’s FAQ says. Families have two options: Executive Triples of 20 m² for three, which the hotel presents as suited to a family stay, and the Junior Suite, 32 m² on the sixth and top floor, which takes four thanks to a sofa bed and has a jacuzzi and a rooftop view. The “Balcony” rooms look down onto the pedestrian street. There are no communicating rooms, but equipment for babies and children is listed.

The ground floor holds RIM Café, an Italian trattoria with a wood-fired oven, open from 11 a.m. to midnight with a terrace on the street; it doubles as the bar, since the hotel has none of its own. Room service runs from noon to 11 p.m. The hotel mentions facilities adapted for guests with reduced mobility and suitable rooms allocated on request, but describes no adapted room. Pets are not accepted, guide dogs excepted.

Rue Saint-Séverin and its neighbours

Saint-Michel Notre-Dame, with the RER B and C, is about 100 metres away; its line 4 platforms are closed until 19 December 2026 (City of Paris works notice). Cluny-La Sorbonne is three minutes away and Odéon five. On our walking estimates, the place Saint-Michel is a minute away, the Cluny museum four, the parvis of Notre-Dame five.

Almost next door, the Hôtel du Levant, on rue de la Harpe, has 46 rooms, quadruples and an adapted room; Hôtel Albe Saint-Michel, at no. 1 of the same street, has 43 rooms and nothing for four. The four-star Hôtel Royal Saint-Michel, on the boulevard, offers family rooms for four or five, made of two linked rooms. With 59 rooms, the Europe Saint Séverin is the largest three-star within 250 metres and the only one of them with a restaurant of its own; the two-star Hôtel Mont-Blanc, on rue de la Huchette, also has one.
