A three-star between place Maubert and the Cluny museum

The Home Latin stands at nos. 15–17 rue du Sommerard, a street of the 5th arrondissement that links place Maubert with the Musée de Cluny. Atout France, the national agency that awards hotel stars, classified it three stars on 13 March 2023 for 54 rooms. Its own website shows no stars at all, and OpenStreetMap lists it simply as “Home Latin”.

No chain or group appears anywhere on the site.

Six room categories, from 14 to 20 m²

The rooms range from 14 m² for the smallest to 20 m² for the largest, over six categories. The family room is the category to look at first: 20 m² with two double beds, for four people at most. There are also triples, and a Junior Suite made of two separate rooms that sleeps three.

The desk is open around the clock, bags can be left after check-out, and the hotel has function rooms. What the website leaves out deserves the same attention. Heating is listed; air conditioning never is. There is no bar, no restaurant and no word on pets. A generic line about adapted access is repeated on every category, the single included, yet no adapted room is ever described, which is why we do not class the Home Latin as accessible.

The street and its neighbours

In a straight line, the Collège de France is about 65 metres away, place Maubert 165, the Musée de Cluny 215, the Sorbonne 280, the square in front of Notre-Dame 400 and the Panthéon 410.

Rue du Sommerard is lined with hotels, so comparison is easy. A few doors along, at no. 9, the Hôtel Jardin de Cluny is classified four stars, with 40 rooms. Next door, at no. 13, the Hôtel Marignan holds one star. Three other three-star hotels lie within about 150 metres on foot: Hôtel Collège de France (29 rooms), Hôtel Korner Sorbonne (21) and Hôtel Claude Bernard Saint-Germain (37). All four list family or triple rooms. The Home Latin is the largest of them, and the only one whose website does not mention air conditioning.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Home Latin Hotel have air conditioning?

We cannot confirm it. The website lists heating in every category and says nothing about cooling. Three nearby three-star hotels do list it — Hôtel Collège de France, Hôtel Korner Sorbonne and Hôtel Claude Bernard Saint-Germain.

Can a family of four share one room?

Yes. The family room measures 20 m² and has two double beds for a maximum of four people. The Junior Suite, made of two rooms, takes three.

Which metro station is closest?

Maubert-Mutualité on line 10, about 200 metres away. Cluny-La Sorbonne, on the same line, is 250 metres off, and Saint-Michel Notre-Dame — RER B and C, with line 4 closed there until 19 December 2026 — about 400 metres.

What does a Home Latin Hotel review come down to?

We give no score and quote no guests, only what we could check. On the plus side, the family room, the 24-hour desk and three stations within five minutes; on the minus side, no air conditioning mentioned, no bar or restaurant, no adapted room.
