A one-star on rue du Sommerard

Hôtel Marignan stands at no. 13 rue du Sommerard, a side street running between place Maubert and the Musée de Cluny in the 5th arrondissement. Atout France, the agency that issues France’s official star ratings, placed it in the one-star category on 24 February 2026, for 30 rooms. It is one of only three one-star hotels in our Latin Quarter database, with the Hôtel Esmeralda and the Hôtel Port-Royal.

What the rooms and services offer

The Marignan is built around shared facilities rather than in-room comfort. Room sizes run from singles to quadruples (a double bed and two singles) and a “quint” for five, with a double and three singles. Some categories have their own bathroom; others share a shower, a toilet or both with two neighbouring rooms, so the category matters when booking.

Guests also have free use of a fitted kitchen, a washing machine and a tumble dryer, an iron and a computer, plus breakfast included in the price. Parents can borrow a cot and a high chair. The website mentions neither air conditioning nor pets, and for reduced mobility it simply asks guests to call the hotel. There is no bar or restaurant, and the nearest parking is a public car park about 200 metres away.

Around rue du Sommerard

On foot, the Collège de France is about a minute away, place Maubert three minutes, the Musée de Cluny four, the Sorbonne five and the square in front of Notre-Dame six. Two hotels in higher categories share the street. Hotel Home Latin, a few doors along at nos. 15–17, is a three-star with 54 rooms whose family room sleeps four; the three-star Hôtel Collège de France, on rue Thénard, has a family room for five and air conditioning. The four-star Hôtel Jardin de Cluny, at no. 9, has 40 rooms.

The Hôtel Esmeralda, another one-star, is about five minutes away on rue Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre: smaller, with 16 rooms, and selling views of Notre-Dame. Two minutes from the Marignan, the Hôtel Claude Bernard Saint-Germain is a three-star with rooms for four and air conditioning throughout.
