Rue des Écoles, not Saint-Germain

The hotel is at no. 43 rue des Écoles, close to the Collège de France, about three minutes from place Maubert and five from the Panthéon. That is the 5th arrondissement — the Latin Quarter proper — and not Saint-Germain-des-Prés, whatever the name suggests. Atout France, the state body that issues French hotel stars, classified it three stars on 25 May 2023 under the name Hôtel Claude Bernard Saint Germain, with 37 rooms.

The welcome booklet invites guests to stay “in a hotel of the INDEVHO group”, an Aix-en-Provence company that also lists Maison Astor Paris and the Hôtel Jules César in Arles.

Rooms built for families and balconies

The hotel publishes its exact room split: 5 singles, 9 doubles, 14 twins, 4 triples and 5 quadruples. The quadruples are family rooms of 30 m² with up to four beds. One category, the Twin/Double with Cathedral view, has a balcony facing Notre-Dame, and the booklet says most rooms in the building have a private balcony. Air conditioning is fitted throughout, and a lift serves the floors.

Accessibility is limited to one triple on the ground floor, adapted for reduced mobility and sold for two people; as the breakfast room is not accessible, those guests are served in their room. Pets are welcome on request, but the supplement differs between the website and the booklet. There is no bar and no restaurant — the 24-hour reception sells snacks — and the nearest parking is a public car park at no. 48 on the same street.

Around the Collège de France

On our estimates, the Collège de France is one minute away, place Maubert three, the Sorbonne four, the Musée de Cluny and the Panthéon five. Maubert-Mutualité (line 10) is the closest station, about three minutes away; Saint-Michel Notre-Dame, seven minutes away, serves the RER B and C, but its line 4 stop is closed until 19 December 2026 for works (Paris.fr, checked October 2026).

The block is shared with four-star hotels — Villa Panthéon, Les Bulles de Paris, the Hôtel & Spa Saint-Jacques and the Hôtel des Carmes, all within a minute. At the same level, the Hôtel WYLD Saint Germain at no. 33 has 45 rooms and triples but no quadruple, and does not take pets; the Hôtel Collège de France, two minutes away on rue Thénard, has 29 rooms and a family room for five. The one-star Hôtel Marignan, two minutes away, gives guests an equipped kitchen and a washing machine.
