Rue des Écoles, a Machefert Collection hotel

Despite its name, the Villa Panthéon is not on the place du Panthéon. It stands at no. 41 rue des Écoles, in the 5th arrondissement, about three minutes from place Maubert and five from the Panthéon itself. Atout France, the agency that classifies French hotels, gave it four stars on 30 October 2023, with 59 rooms.

It is one of the hotels of Machefert Collection, according to its legal notice.

English-club rooms

The interiors take English private clubs as their model: panelling, Chesterfield sofas, drapes and oiled parquet, with Scottish touches in the rooms. All of them are air-conditioned. The hotel mentions a duplex under the roof and a single room facing the Panthéon, so a view of the dome cannot be expected in the other 58. The Junior Suite takes four guests, two on a double sofa bed; two rooms are specially fitted for guests with reduced mobility.

Reception is staffed day and night, breakfast is served from 7 to 10.30 a.m. and can come to the room, and pets are allowed for an extra charge. The list stops there: no bar, no restaurant, no patio and no parking. On the environmental side, the hotel sends used soap to Unisoap, passes unsold food on through Too Good To Go and provides its toiletries in dispensers.

Rue des Écoles and its four-star hotels

On foot, the Collège de France is a minute away, the Sorbonne four and the Cluny museum five, rue Soufflot six and the parvis of Notre-Dame eight. Line 10 stops at Maubert-Mutualité, 200 metres off, then at Cluny-La Sorbonne; for the RER B and C, Saint-Michel Notre-Dame is a seven-minute walk, but line 4 is closed there until 19 December 2026.

Seven other four-star hotels lie within 200 metres on foot, all smaller, from the 13 rooms of Hôtel Résidence Henri IV to the 56 of Hôtel Atmosphères, further down the same street at no. 31. Six of them list a spa, among them Hôtel Les Bulles de Paris and Hôtel & Spa Saint-Jacques, both about a minute away; the Villa Panthéon and the Hôtel Jardin de Cluny are the two without one. Next door, at no. 43, the three-star Hôtel Claude Bernard Saint-Germain has 37 rooms.
