Rue des Écoles, at the foot of the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève
The Hôtel & Spa Saint-Jacques is at no. 35 rue des Écoles, in the 5th arrondissement, where the street runs along the base of the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève hill. The place Maubert is about three minutes away on foot and the Panthéon about five. For readers outside France: the hotel’s four stars come from Atout France, the public agency in charge of the national classification, which placed it in that category by a decision dated 18 June 2026, for 35 rooms.
The hotel is one of three owned by Paris Hotels & Spa, a group that calls itself a family business and whose other Latin Quarter address is the Résidence Henri IV, a 13-room four-star with kitchenettes two minutes away. Because many hotels share the name Saint-Jacques, check the address — 35 rue des Écoles — when booking.
Belle Époque rooms, a spa and an absinthe bar
The hotel presents its interior as Belle Époque: painted murals, a period staircase, moulded ceilings and, in most rooms, reproductions of Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, the Douanier Rousseau or Chagall. Rooms are air-conditioned and served by a lift and room service. For families, two rooms on the same floor — a Triple Privilège and a Standard — form a family unit for up to five.
The spa, opened in August 2020, combines a hammam, a sauna with a salt wall for halotherapy, a snow fountain and a “four seasons” shower, from 8 a.m. to midnight; massages can be booked in the room for a fee between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. The Toulouse-Lautrec bar opens from 2 p.m. to midnight, with a house champagne, a mahogany library of old books and absinthe poured at the fountain. There is no restaurant: breakfast is a buffet from 7 to 10.30 a.m. Pets are refused, and guests with reduced mobility are asked to contact reception beforehand, since no adapted room is described.
The four-stars of rue des Écoles
Maubert-Mutualité, on line 10, is about three minutes away; Cluny-La Sorbonne and Cardinal Lemoine, also line 10, about six; Saint-Michel Notre-Dame, for the RER B and C, about seven (line 4 is closed there until 19 December 2026). The Collège de France is two minutes on foot, the Sorbonne five, the Musée de Cluny six.
Five other four-stars stand within about 100 metres on foot, and between them the choice often comes down to wellness facilities. La Lanterne & Spa, about 100 metres away, is the only one of the five with a pool, a heated indoor one. Hôtel Les Bulles de Paris, at no. 32, builds everything around champagne, with private hammam and sauna slots and a vaulted champagne bar. Hôtel Atmosphères, at no. 31, offers a sauna and fitness room and accepts pets, which the Saint-Jacques does not.
