Timhotel’s address at the bottom of the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève
La Lanterne stands at no. 12 rue de la Montagne-Sainte-Geneviève, near the bottom of the street and about two minutes from the place Maubert, in the 5th arrondissement. Its full name, La Lanterne & Spa By Timhotel, signals its brand: Timhotel lists it among its 16 Paris hotels. Atout France, the state body behind the official French star ratings, classified it four stars in December 2024, for 42 rooms.
The hotel favours a collected look — objects found in salvage yards, a pair of round œil-de-bœuf windows taken from a Parisian mansion, a poster by a Latin Quarter letterer — around an inner garden. It says it was extended in 2020 with wood and other ecological materials, and topped with a planted roof.
A pool under a vault
The wellness area is the hotel’s main facility. It is open to guests from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and includes a heated indoor pool with a counter-current system, a hammam, a Technogym fitness room and a treatment room using Cinq Mondes products for adults and Toofruit for children. The pool sits under a stone vault that the hotel dates to the 12th century; we found no heritage record that confirms it, so treat the date as the hotel’s own.
Rooms are air-conditioned, and some have a private balcony or terrace. Families can choose two communicating rooms, a Suite for up to four or the Duplex Signature with four beds, and the hotel lists rooms for guests with reduced mobility. There is no restaurant. A 40 m² bar corner offers a selection of drinks free on a self-service basis from noon, with soft drinks on a menu and alcohol on request. Only assistance animals are admitted.
Maubert on foot, and the spa hotels next door
Maubert-Mutualité, on line 10, is two minutes away; Cardinal Lemoine and Cluny-La Sorbonne, on the same line, about six; Saint-Michel Notre-Dame, for the RER B and C (line 4 is closed there until 19 December 2026), about eight. In a straight line, the Collège de France is about 170 metres away, the Panthéon 350, the Sorbonne 385, the Musée de Cluny 400 and the parvis of Notre-Dame 475.
Several four-stars with wellness facilities stand close by, but none other within 300 metres has a pool in our data; the nearest, at Hôtel Pilgrim, is about 315 metres away. The Hôtel & Spa Saint-Jacques, about 65 metres away, has a hammam, a salt-wall sauna and an absinthe bar open until midnight. Hôtel des Carmes, about 50 metres away, rents out its hammam and sauna by half-hour slots. For a much smaller house with kitchenettes in every room, the Résidence Henri IV is about 100 metres away.
