The former Moderne Saint-Germain

The Hôtel WYLD Saint Germain is a three-star hotel at no. 33 rue des Écoles, in the 5th arrondissement, where the street runs along the foot of the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève. Atout France, the agency that awards official hotel stars in France, classified it on 20 February 2023 under its former name, Moderne Saint Germain, with 45 rooms, and the company that runs it has kept that name. The current website links to Facebook and TripAdvisor pages under the old name. We could not date the change.

“Saint Germain” in the name should not mislead: the address is in the Latin Quarter, about three minutes from place Maubert and five from the Panthéon, not in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. No WYLD chain or group appears on the site.

Rooms, balconies and the lounge

The hotel describes its 45 rooms as pared back in design. Air conditioning is listed among the services and in the double, twin and triple descriptions, though not in the Superior Single. The triples measure 20 m² and are presented for a couple with a child; there is nothing larger, and no cot or extra bed. One Superior Twin is adapted for wheelchair users. The rooms of the sixth floor have a private balcony, but the lift does not go up there — only the stairs do.

Downstairs, the lounge has table football and a computer for guests, and the reception desk is open day and night in several languages. Breakfast is served in a dedicated room from 7 to 10.30 a.m.; there is no bar and no restaurant. Pets are not allowed, and the hotel offers a paid airport shuttle.

Rue des Écoles, side by side

Close by, at no. 31, the four-star Hôtel Atmosphères has a sauna and fitness room; at no. 35, Hôtel & Spa Saint-Jacques, also four stars, a spa and a bar. Among three-star hotels, Hôtel Claude Bernard Saint-Germain, at no. 43, is about a minute away with 37 rooms and accepts pets; the Hôtel Oratio, on rue des Bernardins, about two minutes, has 39 rooms and adapted rooms too. With 45 rooms, the WYLD is the largest of the three.

Maubert-Mutualité, on line 10, is 200 metres away; Cardinal Lemoine and Cluny-La Sorbonne, on the same line, about six minutes. For the RER B and C, Saint-Michel Notre-Dame is eight minutes on foot, and line 4 is closed there until 19 December 2026. On foot, allow three minutes for the Collège de France and six for either the Sorbonne or the Cluny museum.
