By the station and the garden
The Libertel Austerlitz Jardin des Plantes is at 12 boulevard de l’Hôpital, in the south-east corner of the 5th arrondissement. The boulevard runs between the Gare d’Austerlitz, about 150 metres away, and the Jardin des Plantes, whose enclosure is about 50 metres off. The station gives access to lines 5 and 10 and the RER C and is two minutes’ walk; Saint-Marcel and Quai de la Rapée, both on line 5, are eight. Atout France, the state body that issues French hotel stars, classified it three stars on 13 June 2022, for 51 rooms. It is part of the Hôtels Libertel chain, whose site lists other Paris addresses around the Canal Saint-Martin, the Gare de l’Est, the Gare du Nord and Montmartre.
Rooms and limits
The 51 rooms are renovated and air-conditioned, in six grades from Cosy Single to Family. The Family room has one double and one single bed, three people at most, so it is not a family suite. Breakfast is a buffet, or a shorter Express version, and the hotel stresses fair-trade and organic produce and no individual packaging. There is a water fountain and a drinks machine, and nothing else to eat or drink on site.
The limits are stated plainly on the hotel’s own site. It has no room for guests with reduced mobility, and the lift stops half a floor short of the upper levels. Bicycles are not accepted; small pets are, for a fee. Parking is not mentioned.

The Hôtel du Jardin des Plantes is also three stars, with 35 rooms, a rooftop terrace and an accessible room, so it answers the Libertel’s main limit; it is about 850 metres on foot. The Hôtel Garance, on avenue des Gobelins, is a three-star of 21 rooms, about 1.3 km away.
