The Grande Galerie de l'Évolution in the Jardin des Plantes, a short walk from rue Linné; it shows the area, not the hotel

Rue Linné, at the garden

The hotel is at 5 rue Linné, in the 5th arrondissement, about 50 metres from the enclosure of the Jardin des Plantes. The name is therefore accurate, and the hotel goes further, saying that it faces the garden. For a visitor who has come for the botanical garden or the galleries of the natural history museum, it is a short walk. Place Monge (line 7) is three minutes away, Jussieu (lines 7 and 10) four and Cardinal Lemoine (line 10) six. We list it with the Jardin des Plantes hotels, although the metro at Place Monge could also place it with the Mouffetard block.

Atout France, the state body that awards French hotel stars, classified it three stars on 18 December 2023, for 35 rooms. The hotel is independent, with no chain on show. The hotel says the rooms were redone in 2018 in an industrial style, with wood, metal and parquet; that is its own description, and the register records only the classification.

Terrace, breakfast and what the rooms lack

Its main feature is the terrace: 50 m², tree-lined, on the fifth floor, with a view over the rooftops of Paris. Breakfast can be taken there in summer on request. The hotel does not describe any drinks service, so we treat it as a place to sit rather than a bar. Breakfast is otherwise a buffet in a vaulted room with exposed stone, and there is a lounge with a library. The hotel displays the Valpas label against bedbugs.

Every room has reversible air conditioning, and a lift serves the floors. A single room is listed for guests with reduced mobility. The room list is short: single, double and twin only, with no family room. Pets are not allowed, which the hotel states in writing. There is no restaurant and no bar, and a paying car park nearby is not attached to the hotel.

Against the neighbours

Among the other hotels filed under the Jardin des Plantes, the Hôtel Garance, a three-star of 21 rooms on avenue des Gobelins, is smaller. The Hôtel Orphée, 44 rooms on boulevard Saint-Marcel, and the Libertel Austerlitz Jardin des Plantes, 51 rooms on boulevard de l’Hôpital, are larger. The Hôtel Port-Royal, a one-star of 43 rooms, is the lowest category of the list. Our guide to the Jardin des Plantes covers the walk, and the list of hotels around the Jardin des Plantes compares them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Hôtel du Jardin des Plantes next to the garden?

Close to it. The address is 5 rue Linné, about 50 metres from the garden’s enclosure by our map; the hotel itself says it faces the garden.

Which metro is nearest?

Place Monge on line 7 is about three minutes on foot, Jussieu (lines 7 and 10) four, and Cardinal Lemoine (line 10) six.

Does the hotel have a terrace?

Yes, a tree-lined one of 50 m² on the fifth floor, with a view over the rooftops. Breakfast can be served there in summer on request, according to the hotel; it is not a bar.

Are pets or families catered for?

Pets are not allowed, and the rooms are singles, doubles and twins only, so there is no family room.

What does a Hôtel du Jardin des Plantes review come down to?

Neither a score nor a guest quote appears on this page. Going by the facts we could check, the terrace, the lift and the garden at the door weigh for it; the lack of family rooms and of any bar or restaurant weigh against it.
