Latin Quarter Hotels
Rue Mouffetard, a few minutes' walk from rue Monge; it shows the area, not the hotel

Rue Monge, at place Monge

The hotel is at 71 rue Monge, in the 5th arrondissement, beside place Monge. The name promises the Panthéon, but the monument is about 550 metres away in a straight line, and the street itself belongs to the Mouffetard side of the Latin Quarter. What the address does give is speed. Place Monge, on line 7, is a minute on foot, Jussieu (lines 7 and 10) five minutes and Cardinal Lemoine (line 10) six.

Atout France, the state body that awards French hotel stars, classified it three stars on 14 December 2023, for 37 rooms. The Best Western name is part of the hotel’s name in the official register of classified hotels, and the hotel says it was completely renovated and air-conditioned in 2014. We could not cross-check its current membership of the network on the chain’s own site, so we describe it as it presents itself.

Rooms, hammam and lounge

Air conditioning is reversible and fitted in every room. The family room sleeps four and is formed of two connecting rooms on the first floor, so a party of four can book a single unit. One room is set aside for guests with reduced mobility. Nothing is said about pets.

The shared spaces are the point. The lounge has a fireplace and a library, and opens on to a patio under a glass roof: an indoor courtyard rather than a garden. The hotel also offers a hammam reserved for guests, open without a break from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.; no treatments are announced. There is no restaurant and no bar. Breakfast comes as a quick version or a buffet, and a paying car park nearby is not attached to the hotel.

On the same street

Rue Monge holds several other hotels. The Hôtel des Arènes, at no. 51, is a three-star of 52 rooms next to the Roman amphitheatre. The Hôtel Monge, a four-star of 30 rooms at no. 55, is the step up. The Hôtel des Nations Saint-Germain, 36 rooms at no. 54, is closest to this one in size. Lower down the street, at no. 108, stands the Hôtel de France Quartier Latin. On foot, place de la Contrescarpe and rue Mouffetard are the obvious walks, and our list of hotels around rue Mouffetard compares the block.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Best Western Quartier Latin Panthéon near the Panthéon?

Not especially. The address is 71 rue Monge, beside place Monge; the Panthéon is a little over 500 metres away as the crow flies, and the Arènes de Lutèce are closer, at about 160 metres.

Does the hotel have a spa?

It has a hammam for guests only, open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The hotel announces no treatments, so think of it as a steam room rather than a spa.

Can four people share a room?

Yes, in the family room, which is two connecting rooms on the first floor, according to the hotel.

Is there parking?

Not at the hotel. A paying car park is nearby but is not attached to it.

What does a Best Western Quartier Latin Panthéon review come down to?

There is no score here and no guest quote, only the record. On the checked facts, the place Monge metro, the air conditioning, the hammam and the room for four count for it; the misleading name and the lack of a restaurant or bar count against it.
